At Meta Mechanics, we recently completed an in-depth gearbox repair for a Mercedes-Benz EQE in Dubai, providing our expert services to ensure this luxury vehicle continues to deliver the exceptional driving experience expected of a high-performance brand like Mercedes-Benz. During our inspection and repair, we encountered several critical issues and took immediate action to address them. Here’s an overview of the findings and the tailored solutions we implemented:
Issues Identified:
- Transmission Fluid Contamination
- Issue: The gearbox fluid showed signs of contamination, with a noticeable amount of metal particles and debris. This is a common problem that can cause premature wear on the internal components and compromise the overall performance of the gearbox.
- Solution: We performed a thorough fluid flush and replaced it with high-quality, OEM-approved transmission fluid. Additionally, we inspected the filters and replaced them to ensure no contaminants remained in the system.
- Erratic Shifting Behavior
- Issue: The vehicle was experiencing jerky or delayed shifting, especially when accelerating from a standstill or during high-speed transitions. This is often linked to faulty solenoids, a malfunctioning valve body, or issues with the transmission control unit (TCU).
- Solution: After running diagnostic tests, we found that the transmission control unit (TCU) required recalibration. We also replaced a defective solenoid and cleaned the valve body to restore smooth shifting. After reprogramming the TCU, the transmission responded with seamless shifts.
- Overheating Transmission
- Issue: The transmission showed signs of overheating, with an increase in temperature during extended drives, leading to reduced performance and potential damage to internal components.
- Solution: We inspected the cooling system for blockages and leaks, particularly focusing on the transmission cooler. A faulty cooler was identified, and we replaced it with a new, genuine part. In addition, we ensured that the radiator was functioning optimally to keep the gearbox operating within the ideal temperature range.
- Worn Clutch Packs
- Issue: Upon disassembling the gearbox, we identified that the clutch packs were worn, which was contributing to slipping and poor acceleration response. This issue is typically caused by excessive heat or incorrect fluid levels.
- Solution: We replaced the damaged clutch packs with new ones from the manufacturer, ensuring the proper function of the transmission and a return to smooth, efficient gear engagement.
- Faulty Gear Synchronizers
- Issue: A few gear synchronizers were found to be damaged, resulting in grinding noises when shifting into certain gears and a delay in gear engagement.
- Solution: We replaced the faulty synchronizers and ensured that all gears were properly aligned. This helped restore precise gear changes and eliminated the grinding noise.
