Recently, we completed an Airmatic Suspension Height Calibration on an Audi S6. During our detailed inspection and calibration, we identified several issues that were affecting the vehicle’s air suspension system. Below, we explain the problems we found and the solutions we provided to restore the Audi S6’s suspension performance and overall driving experience.
Issues Identified and Solutions Provided:
1. Incorrect Suspension Height Readings
Problem: The Audi S6 was experiencing incorrect suspension height readings, which caused uneven ride height across the front and rear of the vehicle. This not only affected the vehicle’s appearance but also led to poor handling, increased tire wear, and reduced ride comfort, especially when driving over bumps or uneven surfaces.
Solution: We recalibrated the suspension height sensors to ensure that they were accurately reading the required height settings. After recalibration, we adjusted the suspension system to the correct factory specifications, ensuring the vehicle maintains a consistent and balanced ride height, improving both handling and ride comfort.
2. Faulty Height Sensors
Problem: We discovered that some of the height sensors were malfunctioning. These sensors play a crucial role in detecting the vehicle’s ride height and making the necessary adjustments to the air suspension system. Malfunctioning sensors were causing the system to give inaccurate readings, leading to improper suspension adjustments.
Solution: We replaced the faulty height sensors with new, high-quality, OEM-compatible components. These sensors were recalibrated to ensure precise communication with the air suspension system, allowing for accurate ride height adjustments and a consistent ride quality.
3. Suspension Height Imbalance
Problem: The air suspension system was showing signs of imbalance, with one side of the vehicle sitting higher or lower than the other. This imbalance negatively impacted the handling, driving stability, and overall comfort, particularly when the vehicle was carrying additional weight.
Solution: After replacing the malfunctioning sensors, we recalibrated the suspension system to ensure even air distribution. This allowed us to restore balance to the air suspension, ensuring the Audi S6 maintains equal ride height across both the front and rear suspension, which significantly improves ride quality and handling.
4. Suspension Control Module Errors
Problem: Incorrect suspension height readings and sensor malfunctions caused error codes to appear in the suspension control module. These error codes prevented the system from properly adjusting the suspension and communicating with other vehicle systems.
Solution: After calibrating the suspension height and replacing the faulty sensors, we cleared the error codes from the suspension control module and reset the system. The suspension control module now communicates effectively with the air suspension components, ensuring that the system adjusts as needed for varying driving conditions.
5. Poor Ride Quality and Handling
Problem: The incorrect suspension height and sensor malfunctions caused the Audi S6 to have poor ride quality and compromised handling. The vehicle would often feel unstable, especially when making turns or driving on uneven terrain. The air suspension system was unable to adjust quickly to changes in load or driving conditions.
Solution: With the suspension height recalibrated and sensors replaced, the Audi S6 now responds more effectively to load changes and road conditions. The suspension system adjusts quickly and accurately, providing improved ride comfort, handling, and vehicle stability across all driving conditions.
