Recently, our team had the opportunity to work on a Range Rover Vogue that required a complete transmission overhauling. During this intensive procedure, we discovered several issues within the transmission system that were contributing to the vehicle’s poor performance. In this article, we’ll share the problems we identified and the solutions we implemented to restore the vehicle to its optimal condition.
Issues Identified:
- Internal Gear Wear and Tear: One of the major issues we found during the transmission overhauling was excessive wear on the internal gears. Over time, gear teeth can become worn due to improper lubrication, contamination, or general wear and tear, causing rough shifting, slipping gears, and loss of power.
Solution:
To address this, we replaced the worn-out gears with high-quality, OEM-grade replacements. Each gear was carefully fitted to ensure smooth transitions and optimal power delivery. This repair restored the vehicle’s ability to shift seamlessly, providing the driver with a much smoother driving experience. - Damaged Torque Converter: The torque converter, which plays a critical role in transmitting power from the engine to the transmission, was found to be damaged. This issue was causing erratic shifts and making the vehicle hesitate or stall under certain driving conditions.
Solution:
We replaced the damaged torque converter with a new, high-performance unit that met the manufacturer’s exact specifications. This not only improved the vehicle’s shifting performance but also restored the smooth acceleration and deceleration the vehicle was originally designed to provide. - Faulty Clutch Packs: During the overhaul, we identified that the clutch packs in the transmission were worn and not engaging properly. This issue caused harsh shifting, slipping, and sometimes even a failure to engage gears altogether.

We replaced the faulty clutch packs with new, high-quality parts that ensured proper engagement and smoother gear transitions. This repair eliminated the harsh shifting issues and restored the vehicle’s performance. - Contaminated Transmission Fluid: Upon draining the old transmission fluid, we found it to be highly contaminated with debris and metal shavings. Solution:
In addition to overhauling the transmission, we performed a thorough flushing of the system to remove all contaminants. Fresh, premium transmission fluid was then added, restoring proper lubrication and cooling for the entire system. This helps prevent future damage and ensures smooth operation. - Worn Seals and Gaskets: Worn-out seals and gaskets were found around key areas of the transmission, which were allowing fluid to leak and contributing to a decrease in overall transmission performance.

We replaced all damaged seals and gaskets with new, high-quality parts to ensure the transmission remained sealed properly. This repair prevents future leaks, maintains the correct fluid levels, and ensures long-lasting performance. - Overheated Transmission Components: During the inspection, we found that several transmission components had been subjected to overheating, likely due to prolonged use of degraded fluid, low fluid levels, and internal friction. Overheating can cause the fluid to break down and damage internal parts.
Solution:
After replacing the necessary components, we upgraded the transmission cooling system to improve heat dissipation. This included installing a high-performance cooler to prevent future overheating, ensuring that the transmission operates efficiently even under heavy load or challenging driving conditions.
