At Meta Mechanics, we understand how crucial a well-functioning transmission is to your vehicle’s overall performance. Recently, we had the opportunity to perform a complete transmission rebuild on a Range Rover Velar that was experiencing serious transmission issues. After a thorough inspection, we identified several key problems contributing to the failure. Below, we outline the issues we found and the effective solutions we provided to restore the vehicle’s transmission system to its optimal performance.
Issues Found During Transmission Rebuild:
- Severely Worn Gears: The internal gears of the transmission had become severely worn, causing rough shifting, slipping, and an overall loss of power transfer efficiency.
Solution:
We replaced the damaged gears with high-quality OEM parts. This restored smooth shifting and ensured that the transmission was able to transfer power effectively from the engine to the wheels. - Damaged Synchronizers: The synchronizers, which help the gears mesh properly during shifting, were found to be damaged and worn. This caused jerky and delayed shifting, making the driving experience uncomfortable.
Solution:
We replaced the worn synchronizers, which improved the precision of gear changes and ensured smooth transitions between gears, enhancing the driving experience. - Excessive Wear on Bearings: The transmission bearings were found to be excessively worn, contributing to noise, vibrations, and a decrease in overall transmission stability.
Solution:
We replaced the worn bearings with high-quality replacements to eliminate noise and vibrations, restoring smooth operation and stability to the transmission. - Damaged Transmission Shaft: During the rebuild, we discovered that the transmission shaft had been compromised, which was affecting the transfer of power between the engine and the drivetrain.
Solution:
We replaced the damaged transmission shaft with a new one, ensuring that power was efficiently and reliably transmitted to the drivetrain, eliminating any power loss or performance issues. - Contaminated Fluid and Debris Inside the System: The transmission fluid was found to be contaminated with metal shavings and debris due to the wear of internal components. This contamination was causing friction and overheating within the system.
Solution:
We performed a thorough cleaning and flushing of the entire transmission system, removing all contaminants and replacing the old fluid with fresh, high-quality transmission fluid to ensure smooth operation and proper cooling.
