Recently, we were tasked with repairing an engine mount leaking issue in a Velar. Issues Identified During the Inspection:
- Damaged Engine Mount Seal: The primary cause of the engine mount leak was a damaged engine mount seal. Over time, engine mount seals can degrade due to exposure to heat, vibrations, and oil, causing leaks. This can result in excessive engine movement, leading to discomfort, and potential damage to the surrounding components.
Solution:
We replaced the damaged engine mount seal with a new, high-quality OEM-approved seal. This prevents any fluid or oil leakage, ensuring the engine mount functions as designed and minimizing vibrations for a smoother ride. - Worn Engine Mount Bushings: The engine mount bushings were found to be worn out and losing their ability to properly absorb vibrations. Worn bushings not only cause oil leaks but can also lead to misalignment of the engine, resulting in a rough driving experience.
Solution:
We replaced the worn bushings with new, reinforced ones to restore proper engine alignment and reduce vibrations. This ensures the engine mount functions smoothly, providing both stability and comfort. - Cracked or Damaged Engine Mount: In some cases, the engine mount itself can develop cracks due to prolonged use or external damage. A cracked engine mount can compromise the integrity of the entire mounting system, leading to leaks, noise, and further stress on the engine.
Solution:
We replaced the cracked or damaged engine mount with a brand-new, OEM-approved part. This repair ensures that the engine is securely mounted, preventing excessive engine movement and eliminating any leaking issues. - Leaking Transmission Fluid Contamination: We found that transmission fluid had leaked onto the engine mount, accelerating the degradation of the seal and bushings. Transmission fluid can cause rubber components to break down more quickly, leading to further leakage and wear.
Solution:
After replacing the engine mount and bushings, we cleaned the transmission area to remove any residual fluid. We then refilled the transmission with the correct fluid, ensuring that there was no longer any contamination affecting the engine mount and surrounding components. - Incorrect Mounting Position: Our inspection revealed that the engine mount was not aligned properly, causing unnecessary stress on the system. An improperly positioned engine mount can lead to leaks and vibrations due to uneven weight distribution.
