At Meta Mechanics, we are experts in handling complex automotive repairs to ensure your vehicle operates at its best. Recently, we completed an electric power steering (EPS) rack repair on a Range Rover Velar. During the repair, we identified several key issues affecting the electric power steering system. Here are the issues we found and the solutions we implemented to restore optimal steering performance.
Issues Found During Electric Power Steering Rack Repair:
- Faulty Electric Power Steering Motor: The electric power steering motor was malfunctioning, causing intermittent power assistance loss and making steering harder, especially at low speeds.
Solution:
We replaced the faulty EPS motor with a high-quality OEM replacement, ensuring consistent power assistance and restoring the ease of steering for smooth handling. - Worn-out Steering Rack Bushings: The steering rack bushings were worn out, leading to excessive play in the steering, resulting in imprecise steering and a lack of responsiveness.
Solution:
We replaced the worn bushings with durable new ones, eliminating play and improving steering precision, ensuring a more stable and accurate steering feel. - Damaged EPS Wiring and Connectors: The wiring and connectors related to the electric power steering system were damaged, which caused communication issues between the steering rack and the vehicle’s control systems.
Solution:
We repaired and reinforced the damaged wiring and connectors, ensuring proper electrical connectivity and seamless communication between the steering rack and the control module. - Steering Rack Sensor Malfunction: The steering rack sensor, which provides feedback to the vehicle’s computer system, was faulty, causing incorrect steering angle data and affecting vehicle handling and safety systems.
Solution:
We replaced the malfunctioning steering rack sensor and recalibrated it to factory settings, ensuring accurate steering angle feedback and optimal system integration for enhanced driving safety. - Contaminated Power Steering Fluid: The power steering fluid was found to be contaminated with debris and particles, affecting the performance of the electric power steering system and causing wear on internal components.
Solution:
We flushed the contaminated fluid and replaced it with fresh, high-quality EPS fluid, restoring proper lubrication and protecting the internal components from further damage.
