At Meta Mechanics, we recently addressed a Power Steering Failure issue in a Range Rover Evoque in Dubai. Power steering failure can be a serious concern as it makes steering more difficult and potentially dangerous, especially at low speeds. Power steering assists in turning the wheel with minimal effort, so when it fails, the steering becomes stiff and harder to control. Our team of highly trained technicians quickly diagnosed the cause and provided the necessary repairs to restore the vehicle’s steering functionality.
Issues Found During Power Steering Failure Repair:
- Low or Leaking Power Steering Fluid: One of the most common causes of power steering failure is low fluid levels or leaks in the system. Without enough fluid, the power steering pump can’t generate the pressure needed for easy steering, leading to stiffness and failure of the system.
Solution:
We inspected the power steering system for leaks and found that there was a significant loss of fluid. We repaired the leaks, topped off the fluid, and ensured that the system was sealed properly. After this, the steering was restored to its normal functioning with reduced effort required to turn the wheel. - Faulty Power Steering Pump: The power steering pump is responsible for circulating the fluid through the steering system to provide hydraulic assistance. If the pump is malfunctioning, it can lead to power steering failure and cause a stiff, unresponsive steering experience.
Solution:
Our technicians identified that the power steering pump was faulty and replaced it with a high-quality OEM part. This restored the necessary pressure in the system, making steering effortless once again. - Damaged Steering Rack: The steering rack is essential for converting the rotational motion of the steering wheel into the lateral motion that turns the wheels. If the steering rack is damaged or worn out, it can lead to failure in the power steering system.
Solution:
After further inspection, we found that the steering rack had some signs of wear. We replaced the damaged steering rack with a new OEM part, restoring the functionality of the entire power steering system. - Electrical Issues in Electric Power Steering (EPS): Modern Range Rover Evoque models may feature an electric power steering system (EPS), which uses electric motors to assist with steering. If there’s a fault in the motor or wiring, the power steering system can fail, resulting in stiff and unresponsive steering.
Solution:
We diagnosed an electrical issue in the EPS system and identified a malfunctioning motor. After replacing the motor and repairing the wiring, we tested the system to ensure proper power steering assistance was restored. - Faulty Steering Fluid Reservoir or Pressure Hose: The steering fluid reservoir and pressure hoses are responsible for maintaining the fluid levels and pressure within the power steering system. A malfunctioning reservoir or pressure hose can lead to fluid loss and cause power steering failure.
Solution:
Upon inspection, we found that the pressure hose was leaking and causing fluid loss. We replaced the damaged hose and ensured the reservoir was functioning correctly, maintaining optimal fluid pressure and restoring the power steering system.
