Recently, we had the opportunity to service a Mitsubishi Pajero with a serious engine issue here in Dubai. Our skilled technicians thoroughly diagnosed the problem and found several underlying issues that were affecting the engine’s performance. Below, we will share the issues we identified and the solutions we implemented to restore the engine to its optimal condition.
Issues Found:
- Blown Head Gasket: One of the key issues we found was a blown head gasket, which was causing coolant to mix with the engine oil. This often leads to overheating, loss of power, and potential damage to the engine’s internal components. A blown head gasket is a serious problem that can lead to engine failure if not addressed promptly.
Solution: We removed the damaged head gasket and inspected the cylinder head and engine block for warping or cracking. After ensuring the surfaces were clean and smooth, we installed a high-quality OEM replacement gasket. We also performed a full system flush to remove any contaminants from the coolant and oil systems to prevent further damage. - Worn Timing Belt: The timing belt in the Mitsubishi Pajero had significant wear and tear, which can lead to engine misfires, poor performance, and even severe engine damage if the belt were to snap. A worn-out timing belt can cause the camshaft and crankshaft to become out of sync, leading to engine timing issues.
Solution: We replaced the old, worn-out timing belt with a new, high-quality replacement. We also checked the timing components, including the timing gears and pulleys, to ensure they were in good condition. The engine was then re-timed to manufacturer specifications, restoring proper engine synchronization and performance. - Clogged Fuel Injectors: During our diagnosis, we found that the fuel injectors were clogged and not delivering the proper amount of fuel to the engine. This led to rough idling, poor acceleration, and decreased fuel efficiency. Clogged injectors can also cause misfires and engine knocking.
Solution: We cleaned and serviced the fuel injectors to restore their efficiency. In some cases, we replaced the injectors that could not be adequately cleaned. This improved fuel delivery, resulting in smoother idling, better acceleration, and improved fuel efficiency. - Oil Leaks: The engine was found to have multiple oil leaks, which were likely due to deteriorating seals and gaskets. Leaking oil can lead to a decrease in oil levels, causing inadequate lubrication and risking internal engine damage over time.
Solution: We replaced the damaged seals, gaskets, and oil pan to stop the leaks. We also performed an oil change with high-quality engine oil to ensure proper lubrication and prevent any further leakage. - Overheating Issues: The cooling system was found to be partially blocked, contributing to engine overheating. This issue was caused by a clogged radiator and a malfunctioning thermostat. Overheating can lead to further damage to the engine, including warping of the cylinder head and potential failure of critical components.
Solution: We flushed the entire cooling system to remove any debris and buildup. The radiator was thoroughly cleaned, and the thermostat was replaced with a new one to regulate engine temperature properly. We also checked the water pump and cooling fans to ensure that the cooling system was operating at full capacity
