Audi SQ5 Brake Oil Change

Issue Identified:

1. Contaminated Brake Fluid

Issue:
When we drained the brake fluid from the Audi SQ5, we observed that it had become discolored and murky, which is a clear sign of contamination. Brake fluid that has been exposed to moisture over time can cause a variety of issues, including reduced braking performance, corrosion of metal parts, and even failure under high-stress braking conditions.

Solution:
We performed a complete brake fluid flush, replacing the contaminated fluid with fresh, high-performance brake fluid. This is essential for restoring the braking system’s efficiency, particularly for a high-performance vehicle like the Audi SQ5. Fresh fluid ensures proper braking response, reduces the risk of brake fade, and helps protect the system from corrosion.

2. Low Brake Fluid Level

Issue:
We found that the brake fluid level was lower than the manufacturer’s recommended level. While the vehicle wasn’t actively leaking, a drop in fluid levels often points to either brake pad wear (as the pistons in the calipers move further out) or the possibility of a slow, undetected leak somewhere in the system.

Solution:
We topped up the brake fluid to the correct level and conducted a thorough inspection of the brake lines, master cylinder, and calipers for any visible signs of leaks. While no immediate leaks were found, we recommended that the owner monitor the fluid levels regularly. 3. Air in the Brake Lines

Issue:
During the fluid change, we discovered the presence of air in the brake lines. Air bubbles in the brake fluid can cause the brake pedal to feel spongy and less responsive, which can severely affect braking performance.

Solution:
We performed a complete brake bleed to remove the air from the brake lines. This process ensures that the brake fluid is free of air bubbles, restoring a firm, responsive brake pedal. Removing air from the brake lines is critical to maintaining consistent braking performance, especially in high-performance vehicles like the Audi SQ5, where quick, precise braking is essential.

4. Worn Brake Pads and Rotors

Issue:
Although the brake pads were still within the acceptable thickness, we noticed that the rotors had developed some light scoring and grooving, likely due to regular wear and tear. While this doesn’t immediately compromise braking safety, it can lead to reduced braking efficiency and increased noise or vibration during braking.

Solution:
We recommended resurfacing the rotors to restore a smooth, even contact surface for the brake pads. If the rotors were to become excessively worn or scored, we would have advised replacing them entirely to avoid further issues. Ensuring that the rotors and pads work together efficiently prevents premature wear and enhances braking performance.

5. Inspection of Brake Lines and Components

Issue:
As part of our comprehensive brake system inspection, we checked the condition of the brake lines, hoses, and other components for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. While there were no immediate issues, routine checks like this help to prevent larger problems down the road.

Solution:
We conducted a thorough inspection of the brake lines and components and confirmed that everything was in good condition. We advised the customer to schedule a follow-up inspection at the next service to ensure that the system remains in top shape. Regular checks help catch small issues early, preventing costly repairs in the future.
