At Meta Mechanics, we know that brake performance is one of the most important aspects of your Audi RS6’s safety and driving dynamics. Whether you’re cruising down Sheikh Zayed Road or navigating Dubai’s winding streets, your brake pads play a crucial role in providing the stopping power you need. Recently, we had the opportunity to perform a brake pad replacement on an Audi RS6, and we want to share our findings, the solutions we implemented, and why timely brake pad maintenance is essential for your vehicle’s performance and safety.
Issue Identified:
1. Worn Brake Pads
Problem: The brake pads on the Audi RS6 were significantly worn down, and the wear indicators were showing. As the pads wear, the friction material that presses against the rotor decreases, reducing braking efficiency. This can result in a spongy pedal feel and longer stopping distances.
Solution: We replaced the worn-out brake pads with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) brake pads designed specifically for the Audi RS6. These high-performance pads ensure smooth, consistent braking, even under heavy braking conditions, restoring the car’s original performance.
2. Uneven Brake Pad Wear
Problem: Upon further inspection, we noticed that the wear on the pads was uneven between the inner and outer pads on both sides of the car. Uneven wear can lead to vibrations or a pulling sensation when braking, which can affect both safety and comfort.
Solution: After replacing the brake pads, we also inspected the calipers and brake hardware. We found that some caliper sliders were sticking, which caused uneven pressure on the brake pads. We cleaned and lubricated the caliper sliders and ensured that the calipers were functioning properly, allowing for even wear on the new brake pads.
3. Worn Brake Rotors
Problem: The brake rotors showed signs of scoring and grooving, which is common when the brake pads wear down too much. These grooves can cause vibrations or noise when braking, and in severe cases, they can damage the new brake pads.
Solution: We resurfaced the rotors to smooth out the grooves and scoring. If the rotors had been too thin or damaged beyond repair, we would have recommended replacing them. In this case, the rotors were in good condition after resurfacing, which allowed us to reuse them and avoid unnecessary costs for the customer.
4. Brake Fluid Check
Problem: The brake fluid was slightly discolored, indicating that it was due for a flush. Old or contaminated brake fluid can lead to reduced braking efficiency and cause the brake system to perform poorly under extreme conditions.
Solution: We performed a complete brake fluid flush, replacing the old fluid with fresh, high-quality brake fluid. This ensures that the hydraulic system is functioning at optimal levels, maintaining consistent braking performance.
